The Day I Had A "Man Flu"

Most of our weekends are fairly normal. Some of them Daniel is off and we spend time together as a family, and for others, he is working and I just hang out with the girls all day. Nothing too exciting.
This past weekend was different. Exciting? well, kind of.
I had the flu for the first time in years. Seriously, the last time I was "upset tummy" sick was when I was pregnant. Anyways, that was the non-exciting part. I was up all Friday night sick, and by Saturday morning was in a daze of weakness and fatigue. To top it all off, Daniel had to go to work and Myka and Danica were being less than pleasant. At first I thought they might be getting sick too, but no. They were just in combat mode with each other.
I decided to lay in the living room so I could keep a better eye on them while they were destroying the house. Nothing makes a mom want to get better faster than watching it all fall apart around her!
I grabbed a sleeve of crackers, and inched my way to the couch. Just as I had made myself semi-comfortable and was starting to nibble on the first cracker, 3 of my 4 kids jumped on me and made off with the crackers. I made a feeble attempt to scold them and get them to bring them back, but it was too late. Half the crackers were already gone and the other half were crushed and trailed across the house. Lovely.
I sank back and closed my eyes with the intent of drifting into a dream where none of this was happening.
Then the exciting part happened. Like a superhero appearing at the scene of a crime, Daniel was there, standing by the couch to save the day. Yay!
As if that wasn't great enough...he looked at me with sympathy and uttered these words: "Babe, why don't I take the girls to a movie so you can spend the day resting in quiet?"
Hallelujah! If I hadn't been feeling like death itself, I would have jumped on him. Instead, I got him to help me up so I could run to my other new best friend...the bathroom.
I did my best to make sure they were all presentable, and less than an hour later, they were gone. It felt so weird. It was like, "woah, I can do anything I want, watch anything I want, EAT anything I want.....oh wait. Nope. I can lay in bed and nap while trying not to throw up."

I did. And it turned out to be pretty great. I dozed in and out of sleep while watching The Big Bang Theory all. day. long. I didn't have to make any meals, wipe any butts, break up any fights....*happy sigh* It was blissful...except for the sick part.

It was almost as though I was a husband with the flu!

*Notable side perk of the whole day: Our girls are going to remember their dates with daddy for the rest of their lives, and for that I am so grateful and feel extremely blessed. He survived it, and was in almost as good of a mood as the girls when they got home!
