What made you want to become an artist?
The need to have a job that I love!
What is your favorite item to create?
Any and every custom orders, I will have to say are my favorite. I guess it is because it is always something new, and it combines both the customers ideas with mine.
What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
Well, I am pretty new to Etsy myself, and could use any advice that would handed my way. I started my shop in November 2010 then took everything down late December(in order to take a step back and settle on one product line) , and then put everything back up in early February. Soooo, all I can say that keeps me moving forward, is to love your own product, and realize that at the end of the day good things really do come to those who wait.
How do you promote your work?
At this time, I have really just now began promoting my work. I have joined some teams, and purchased some showcase spots, and now I am trying to participate in blogs such as this.
Do you have any websites connected to your shop (blog, facebook, twitter)? I only have my etsy website at this time. It is: www.achosenfew.etsy.com I plan on starting a facebook page soon, and also have been looking into starting my own blog as well.
What is the inspiration for your work?
My inspiration comes from my three beautiful daughters!
Do any of your items go toward a special cause?
Yes, 100% of my breast cancer awareness fringe bracelet go directly to the Susan G Komen 60 mile 3 Day Walk for a Cure.
Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?
In my previous life (about 4 months ago), I was a financial analyst, but as of today, I am a stay at home mom of 4, 3 girls(16,10,7) and my 1 son(6), and life could not be any better. One morning, I woke up and it was like I had been slapped in the face by the dream fairy and decided that life is to short and needed to spend every moment I can with my children, before I missed them being children altogether. I was working about 60 to 70 hours a week on average and my husband works about 2000 mile away from home 28 days and then comes home for 14 days then it repeats. So basically, I am a super happy SAHM!
Where do you create?
This is a funny question. Well as of about a week ago, my desk was stolen, yes stolen, by my 16 year old daughter, so as of now, I have been reduced to a spot on the floor in a corner of our gameroom. I came home from grocery shopping one day, and my desk had been moved, borrowed, or I like STOLEN. The excuse I got was she really needed it for homework, and how can I say no to it helping her with homework. RIGHT! WHATEVER! Anyhow I plan on getting a new one in a few days, it just has been a little crazy since returning home from spring break. So at this time, I can't/won't provide a picture, but can tell you to imagine your biggest mess, and then multiply it my a million. :)
What are your goals for your shop?
My ultimate goal is to always have happy customers, no matter how many items I sell.
