Cake Pop, Anyone?

A few months ago, i found a great cake pop tutorial on Little Miss Momma's blog, and really wanted to try it. Today is Addison's birthday, so I jumped at the opportunity to experiment!

Addison wanted white cake, so we started by baking a boxed white cake and letting it cool. Then we crumbled it into this large bowl.
Crumble crumble.
Then we added about 1/2 a can of Betty Crocker white frosting. What you do with the other half is up to you :)
You want to make sure you add enough so that it sticks together in balls well and when you roll a ball between your hands, it doesn't crumble apart.

Make sure they're not too big...maybe 2 inches in diameter? We learned this the hard way when a few of the large ones decided to slide down their stick lol. Learn from our mistake...make 'em bite size :)
For the sticks, I used white paper craft sticks. Most of you can find them at Michael's, but in Dawson we don't have one...we have B&T instead, and that's where I found mine.
I used white chocolate baking squares...melted in the microwave.
Dip each stick into the chocolate about 1 inch.
Then stick it into a ball about halfway or so.
Once all the sticks are in, stick them into a scrap piece of styrofoam to allow for "creative messes".

Now, I totally skipped a picture, but at this stage (before we put the chocolate on), we stuck them in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Again, this is one of our mistakes that you can learn from lol...before the freezer idea, we had a few "chocolate" mishaps from it dripping too much.
Once they come out of the freezer, you can dip them in the smooth melted white chocolate. I recommend using a spoon to help evenly coat each one. *Note* this step can be frustrating. It helps if you're not too much of a perfectionist lol.
We didn't buy enough white chocolate, so we used chocolate chips for some of them. It actually worked really well, and I would do it again!
The upside to using white chocolate is that you can color any leftovers with gel food coloring, and use that to decorate the pops :)
In our case, for a 6 year old's birthday, we figured that sprinkles were an appropriate decoration.
After they are all decorated, transfer your pops to a good styrofoam block. I got a nice one at the craft store.

Looks like we had a rebellious purple sprinkle!
Here they are! The result of about 2.5 hours of fun!
mmmmmmm. Each pop is the perfect amount of cake. One or two per person is lots!
Our "professional" opinion of a finished cake pop? Delicious. The coating is hard, but the inside is moist and delicious. And despite there being a bunch of icing mushed in with the cake, they don't taste "mushy".
If the finished product doesn't make you want to do this, you MAY not have done it right :D
There are so so many ways that you could decorate these, and they are great for everything from birthday parties, to baby and bridal showers, or would make a great gift for a friend who needs cheering up!

Thanks for reading! If you make these, I would love for you to come back and show me a picture!
