How was your Saint Patrick's Day? I'll admit, I'm not a huge celebrator of the holiday normally...but spending it in Sydney, Australia was pretty cool :)
It was also a bit of an adventure. Everyone in the family was in the parade, except for Grandma, Danica, and I. It was in downtown Sydney, so needless to say, there were millions of people packing the streets! The three of us were supposed to saunter down the street to the park where the parade was ending and meet the rest of the group. And then Jael rushed off without leaving her phone so we could have a way to stay in contact...
An hour and a half later, Grandma, Danica and I were still waiting at the park. We stayed near the edge, just outside the gates so the others could find us easily when they walked by. As the thousands of people passed by us, Grandma remarked, "if only they had worn green so we could pick them out of the crowd!" I love you Grandma :)
Eventually we ended up back at the Queen Victoria building, where we had parked the vehicles. We figured they would show up eventually :) They did, but the second adventure began there...none of them had Alexa! Each person thought someone else had been looking after her. Everyone split up to look for her...poor Jael was frantic. Thankfully, she was found within half an hour safe and sound with some policemen, and was in a really good mood because they had given her a free bottle of water! LOL
So, while a crazy day, it was also really fun. With all of mine and Grandma's waiting time, we could really enjoy ourselves. We walked slowly, we drank lattes at Starbucks, and had lunch at a fancy little cafe in the Queen Victoria building. The two of us have always enjoyed spending time together because we have so much in common...and now we have discovered a mutual love for tomato and avocado sandwiches. Our trip has been full of them. Deeeeelicious!
And if anyone's keeping count, here's the current score of Australian animal sightings:
-bush kangaroo
-wallabee
-wombat
-cockatoo
-cows
-sheep
Three of those were alive.....yup, the cow, sheep and bird. But, I guess seeing a dead kangaroo on the side of the road counts for something, right?
Maybe tomorrow we can go to the zoo so I can see a live one!
Sounds like a great time despite one munchkin picking up a policeman LOL.
ReplyDeleteHope you see a live Kangaroo asap :)
