Are you a snuggly sleeper?
The idea for this came to mind one day when I was chatting with a friend. I mentioned to her that we were getting a new bed because ours was really saggy in the middle and Daniel and I end up squished together all night. She said, "that wouldn't be a problem for us because we snuggle all night anyway!"
Call me crazy, but I just can't imagine being cuddled up to him like that ALL night while I slept. In fact, I can't fall asleep at all while we cuddle. Which is a problem, since I'm married to an "intense snuggled."
I like hugging him, or snuggling while we watch a movie...things like that, but when it's time to sleep, I like. my. space. I sprawl as much as I can (a king size bed is on my top 10 wish list!), and enjoy my sleep as much as I can. After all, who knows how much of it I'll get in any given night?
Here's an example of our night:
11:00 (or thereabouts): crawl into bed, snuggle and chat for a bit.
11:20: I say, "ok, bedtime!" or something like that, and we turn so our backs are together and go to sleep.
1:15: Myka comes into our room, asking for a drink. I get up, get her a drink, put her in bed, and sit by her bed for a few minutes because "I want you, mommy".
1:25: I sneak out of her room, go into my room, and go to crawl into bed. Usually I end up sitting on Daniel's arm because he has gotten into what I like to call the "Venus Flytrap" position. How this works is that as soon as I get out of bed in the night, he subconsciously rolls so that his hands and feet are touching my edge of the bed. This way, the second he feels me get back in, he can "trap" me and use me as a human body pillow. I can't fall asleep during this unconscious snuggling...partly from feeling constricted, partly from his snoring in my ear, and partly from his breath on my face. Ew.
I usually lay there politely for a minute or two before elbowing him in the ribs so he will roll over and I can fall back to sleep.
3:30: Danica wakes up to nurse, and the above process is repeated.
6:36: Yes, it has been 6:36 exactly...every day for two weeks now that Myka wakes up and wants food. If I was a morning person (or had gotten a solid sleep), I would just call this morning and wake up for the day. I am not, however, a morning person, so I get up, get her a small snack, like a banana or granola bar, and then tell her to go lay in her bed so I can get half an hour more of sleep before I need to get up with the girls for school.
The other night it was proven that while Daniel is an unconscious snuggler, I am an unconscious anti-snuggler. He told me this story the next morning:
He had gotten up to use the washroom in the night, and when he got out of bed, threw his side of the covers onto me. When he crawled back into bed and reached over to grab his covers off of me, my arm did a lightning fast karate chop down the side of my body to hold the blankets down around me and prevent him from coming near.
What can I say? I really like my space at night! LOL
So....of all the women out there who read my blog (all 10 of you :p), who is like me, and who actually likes snuggling at night?
Does anyone have a snuggly hubby like me?
Oh, and while I was searching pics that I could use on this post, I came across this...which totally cracked me up. Happy Valentines Day! LOL
Weirdest thing ever: In almost six years of marriage my husband and I have never been able to fall asleep cuddling at night. But if we're snuggling at nap time, we always wake up an hour later in the same position! I can try and try to fall asleep in his arms at night but I ALWAYS have to move back to my side of the bed first! And a king bed really is a wonderful thing!

ReplyDeleteI am soo with you on this one. My hubs loves to cuddle, I can't sleep while being touched. Our bedtime routine is pretty much the same as yours.
ReplyDelete11:30 - go to bed, cuddle, chat about our days, be just us
11:45 - I say, "Goodnight babe!" we kiss and turn our backs to each other.
11:47 - the hubs has already fallen asleep, and is snoring loudly, and has somehow managed to trap me into cuddling and I have to throw him off.
I sound like such an ungrateful wife, but I just need my space when I sleep! I do love to cuddle watching movies though!
