I've been asked this question quite a few times this Christmas season. Last year, I was asked once, and my answer was..." I have no idea! Addison, do you believe in Santa?"
She said no.
Here's our stance on it....we have no problem with Santa Claus. The character of Santa is modelled after a real man who was a very good guy. But...our girls do know right from the beginning that he is a fun character associated with Christmas, but not the "reason" for it.
So...they get their picture taken with Santa, they tell him what they want for Christmas...they colour pictures of him, and even leave out cookies on Christmas Eve. They have fun with every kid's fantasy of maybe catching a glimpse of Santa that night :)
But they know that mom and dad buy their gifts and sneak around in the night like elves, getting them wrapped and under the tree.
They know that Jesus was born at Christmastime, to live here and show us by example "what Jesus would do", and to forgive us for our sins.
Two days ago, we set up the nativity scene in our window. The girls loved talking about each piece as they set it in place. Addison read the "easy to read" Christmas story, and Danica tried to take the angel out inconspicuously!
Oh, Addison's pose? All her. I thought it was cute :)
My children were not taught that Santa was the giver of their gifts, or the reason for the season. For that matter, my sister and I were not taught that either.
ReplyDeleteVery cute pictures!
Santa does not bring everything at our house. He only brings one gift, the rest and all the big gifts are from family. It's always been that way.
ReplyDeleteOf course a lack of belief may lead to underwear or socks! LOL
