Winter Gardening

Since pretty much the beginning of my time on Pinterest I've seen the post about regrowing your green onions in water. It intrigued me, so I tried it.
It worked! I thought it was an awesome idea, but pretty soon I noticed that every time the onions regrew, they were lighter and lighter in colour.

My super smart husband pointed out to me that the water itself doesn't contain the nutrients the onions need to grow...they needed dirt.

Sooooo...off to the dollar store I went. They had small bags of potting soil for $2, and this cute little tin for $2 as well!
I planted my store-bought onions in this, watered them, and voila! Beautiful, dark green onions that grow like weeds in my kitchen window :)
Even with the mild winter we've had, I've missed the "green" of gardening. It's crazy how something as little as green onions growing in my kitchen can make me feel so much happier!
