Indescribable is one of my favourite songs ever. It is by far the song that pops into my head most often...usually when I see a beautiful display of nature :)
When we were in Maui last month, Daniel and I took the girls for a drive around the top part of the island. For lots of it, there was the ocean on the left hand side of us, and cliffs jutting upwards on the right hand side. It didn't take us long to notice the colour of the cliffs....the dirt that made up the rocks was so vibrant! One moment it was a bright red, then it would fade to rust coloured, then bright yellow, and even had a tinge of blue in some spots! The girls noticed and were pointing out all the colours to us. "God sure isn't afraid of colour, is He?" I responded to them. That thought had just come to me, but it has stuck with me ever since.
Space is awe inspiring, but dark. All of the other planets that we as humans have seen are desolate and not very colourful. God made them all, and created the "impossible" size and heat of the sun and stars. When I think about the vastness of it all, I am so humbled! And then there is Earth. a planet that is tiny in comparison to some, but one that God designed and created to show us a little bit of himself. On any of the other planets, we humans would be ecstatic to find even a tiny organism of life. Earth doesn't just have "a little bit" of life. It is packed full! I believe that God designed it this way to show us beyond a shadow of a doubt how he feels about us. He doesn't just want us to survive where we live...with just enough food, water and oxygen to survive. He wants us to thrive and to enjoy His creation to the fullest!
The colours in his creation are just one tiny part of that, although awe inspiring all by themselves....we just have to see a sunset, sunrise, garden, or stick our face under the ocean water to see that! He literally poured his beauty into everything he created. And the variety! I mean here I sit, looking out my window at piles of white, pure snow and gorgeous mountains....while at the very same time friends of mine are in hot places, where gorgeous flowers and tropical fruits are growing.
I have the Bible app on my phone, and today's verse of the day is 1Peter 3:15:
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."
I know God is there, and I KNOW He loves us more than we can understand, because He is right here with us. His beauty is absolutely everywhere...and if we don't see it in nature, all we have to do is look into the faces of our children, and we know.
Even if we don't say it with our mouths, our soul knows.
Wow, that was not what I set out to write when I started this post, but that is ok! My original intent was to share some photos of our Sunday morning so far. It's been a great morning...the girls have played dress up, and I've been puttering around cleaning the house in preparation for my sister in law and nephew to get here! It's going to be an awesome week :)
Have a great Sunday everyone!
Today, I am humbled by His Beauty
