This was one of my husband's favorite meals growing up, and it's guaranteed to make me very popular when I make it for him!
It's fast, easy, inexpensive to make, and loved by all men because it combines two of their favorite things....beef and pie (those are their favorite things, right?:p)
Get ready to be called the best wife in the world!
Hamburger Pie
Filling:
1 pound of ground beef
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup onion, diced small
1 tsp oregano
1 cup shredded cheese
1 tsp worchestershire sauce
Pie Crust
2 Cups flour
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup shortening
5-8 Tbsp cold water
First, make the pie crust....blend the flour and salt, cut in the shortening until it resembles small peas, and add just enough water to make it stick! Roll it out and place in a pie plate. The recipe will make more than you need for one pie :)
Then make the filling....mix all the ingredients EXCEPT the cheese and worchestershire. Mixture will be slightly softer than you might expect. Pour into the pie crust, and bake at 350 for 50 minutes or so. Toss the shredded cheese with the worchestershire and sprinkle on top of the pie....bake for 10 more minutes or until cheese is melted and pie is cooked through.
Serve with a salad or veggie and you have a complete meal!
Enjoy :D
I'm making it for supper tonight...maybe I'll add a pic later!
