Most nights, Myka goes to sleep around 8. I don't know why I am still hanging on to the hope that it will be for the night, because I am disappointed every night when I realize that she thought it was just "naptime"! The norm lately is for her to wake back up at 9 or 10 and be bright eyed and bushy tailed until 12-1 in the morning. Daniel often waits up, hoping she'll go to bed so I can actually go to bed at the same time as him, but since he works fairly early he usually ends up giving up and going to bed without me....
Although there were two nights this week that were different:
1. she went to bed at 10 and stayed there! YAY! I actually got a bath in that that night with my new yummy bubbly bath powder!
2. She went to bed at 9:30, then started fussing an hour later, but I just left her to see if she would go back to sleep...it only took two minutes and she was back asleep. She never even started crying, just fussing a bit!
Other than that though, I usually have an awake but happy baby until the wee hours!

I've heard that starting a schedule of bathtime...quiet feeding in the dark, then bed can work that hasn't proven true for me! but i'll keep trying to make sure she knows it's nighttime...lol
right now these are the ways i deal with it...
-take a bath with her and play with her and try to enjoy the one on one time (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?)
-let her play in her jumperoo while i sew.. it can be a good time to get orders done!
-watch a movie and pig out on popcorn
-fold laundry
-lay on the couch with her and hope my calmness will put her to sleep! lol
-call my friend who likes to stay up late :) (you know who you are!)

So, it continues, but hopefully she will realize soon that I would much prefer to go to bed at 10 than 1!! LOL
Hi!
ReplyDeleteMy little one is three now, but I totally remember those days. Here are the few little things I did to make my life easier (I had to wake up at 6:30am to get ready for work/take my son to daycare) and sleep is sooo important!
1- Routine. I am sure you have read this, but in that book 'Happiest Baby on the Block' they suggest EASY which stands for:
Eat
Activity
Sleep
You
For the tiny babies just repeat this all day, but as they get older this works for the evening. As long as you do the exact thing every night the baby will remember and know what will be next.
2- Light in the day, dark at night. During the day (you are a SAHM, right?) have the curtains open, lights, on, tv or music on, etc. When it's time for sleep (or naps) make it super dark, quiet, and the baby will know that fun time is over, and by going to sleep she won't miss anything.
I hope these work for you! I know neither are new or unique, but I promise they work. And as soon as you get it all figured out, the baby won't be a baby anymore and then everything will change lol! My son didn't sleep through the night until he was a year old and walking, then he FINALLY tired himself out enough to sleep through the night. I just kept his crib in my room the 1st yr and am not really sure how I made it to work every day LOL. But the time flies by so fast so it's just a distant memory of sleepless nights now.
thanks for the suggestions! I'll keep plugging through :)
